The Prince Albert knot

Want a knot that is thicker than a four-in-hand but less bulky than a half-windsor? Do you find the four-in-hand to be too casual looking and the half-windsor being a little too formal? Love the four-in-hand but tie always comes out too long when done?

This knot is going to be perfect for you.


1. Begin by passing the wide end over and back behind the narrow end.


2. Pass the wide end again over the narrow end.


3. Wrap the wide end below the narrow end.


4. Instead of going through the loop like you would for a four-in-hand, repeat the second step by bringing the wide end back over the narrow end.


5. Pass the wide end behind the knot and through the loop around your neck.


6. Pull the wide end underneath the outer layer of the knot.


7. If both ends don't meet perfectly, simply start over and adjust the length of your tie accordingly. Make sure your collar falls nicely all around, and center the knot as best you can.
